Company Communications Beyond the Office Bathroom as a Communication Nexus - Workology

Company Communications Beyond the Office Bathroom as a Communication Nexus - Workology The Best Places for Office Announcements and Communication in the Office The Best Places for Office Announcements and Communication in the Office In a company a long time ago and far, far away in which I worked, my boss took advantage of every single solitary opportunity to engage his workforce and communicate to his office employees. While employees may spend an average of 64 minutes of unproductive time smoking at work, they also spend unproductive work time somewhere else.  A place where my boss believed you could effectively communicate and have their unlimited attention. *flush*   Yes, you guessed right; the bathroom. The Bathroom and Interoffice Communications My boss thought  of the office potty like a five minute infomercial of company news and office announcements.  The bathroom break provided an opportunity to get his employee’s undivided attention.  Much like late night television, you couldn’t escape his office announcements.  His attempts at improved company communication went beyond the standard bathroom stalls signs. He incorporated streamed audio commentary with a myriad of company announcements intermixed among the sterile elevator music.  Insert your favorite elevator music by Kenny G and “Join us for the annual family employee picnic Sunday. . .” Where is Your Company Communication Nexus? Opportunities  like these are what I call a company’s “communication nexus.”  They are office or work locations, either voluntarily or involuntarily, where you are open, possibly willing or available to be leveraged a unified message or office announcement.   My bosses communication nexus of choice was away from the interruptions of office email and the distraction of the internet (It was 2003 and before the rise of the Smartphone). His employees’ attention at his disposal. These communication nexi are points or office locations where potential employee touch points lie beyond the typical break room posters and communication bulletin boards.  Gone have the obligatory paycheck attachment where HR could spread the word to the natives about the upcoming company picnic or November’s annual benefits enrollment.  Aside from your company’s intranet (do you really read it?), these nexi provide an opportunity to further support the standard methods of communication like voicemail, email, and, my personal favorite,  poorly designed workplace posters. Using the Company Text for Text Message Office Marketing You may already be leveraging some of these nexus connection points like the office time clock, internal portals, employee entrances, and even refrigerator doors.  But there are others you may have missed. Mobile text messaging can serve as an effective office communication nexus for those especially important announcements like building closures, severe weather, specific communications, and emergency situations.  With 94% of text messages read, it’s a nexus that sure beats announcements and elevator music any day. In a world and work filled with endless distractions, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.  You’re employees are badgered by fruitless requests to update their employee information, watch the CEO’s latest viral video, and complete their online ethics training by September 1.  Don’t even get me started on emails especially those with the return receipt requests. . . DELETE! Don’t miss opportunities for company communications and try a new office communicator; the text message! Learn more about how companies can use mobile messaging like text messages and other mobile communication technologies for HR, recruiting, and employee communication, at our September 15th webinar, “Mobile:  The Next Big Thing in HR, Recruiting, and Employee Engagement.”

Demonstrate Confidence at the Job Interview by Projecting Your Voice

Demonstrate Confidence at the Job Interview by Projecting Your Voice Demonstrate Confidence at the Job Interview by Projecting Your Voice Projecting your voice is an easy way to demonstrate confidence at the job interview. When a job candidate has a soft, quivering, or breathless voice, any interviewer will conclude that the candidate is nervous. Some interviewers will go even further and decide that the candidate lacks energy and self-confidence. Dont let a weak voice ruin your chances at getting a job offer. Project a strong, resonant voice. Heres a helpful tip: imagine a vocal range from 1 to 7, with 1 being a low voice and 7 being a loud voice. Your goal: project a voice in the 5 range. What does a 5 range sound like? For those who consider themselves a loud speaker, you are probably speaking in the 4 range. You can easily go an extra notch from a 4 to 5 without being perceived as too harsh on someones ears. For those who have been told that they have a soft voice, its likely that you have a voice in the 2 or 3 range, and you can easily increase your voice strength by 2 to 3 ranges. Many of clients tell me: It sounds like Im yelling. While it may feel that way, listeners are attracted to strong, resonant voices. If youre concerned, find a friend and get their opinion. More often than not, theyll tell you that youre not yelling. And they likely tell you how much they love your new strong voice. In addition to projecting confidence, a strong voice is particularly important during phone interviews. Conversations over cell phones or Skype may be incomprehensible due to poor connections. Before an interview, practice your strong, resonant voice. Your interviewer will give you credit as someone who is confident, articulate, and memorable.

4 Reasons New Years Resolutions are Designed to Fail

4 Reasons New Years Resolutions are Designed to Fail The new year is almost upon us and if you’re a New Year’s resolution setter you’re starting to think about which goals you’ll set for the year ahead. Ever notice how we hear a lot of talk around setting resolutions each year but not a whole lot around keeping resolutions after the ball drops? If you’re the type that fails as early as Jan 2nd, then you know why the talk of resolution success peters off. It’s called: failure, followed by denial, and then quick goal recalibration, back to the pre-New Year you. If you are indeed the type that fails, not to worry. You are part of the majority. According to a study by the University of Scranton, only 8% of people who set resolutions, end up keeping them. I was pretty shocked when I learned about this but when I started to think about my own resolution success, I had a swift reality check as it seemed that I was also among the majority. That’s not to say I don’t achieve goals but specifically, when it comes to New Year’s resolutions, I’m not particularly successful. This year I decided to take a stand and really understand why we fail since understanding the why is a critical part of addressing the problem. There are 4 reasons youll want to make note of  if you’re going to have any hope in achieving your resolutions this year: 1. You Can’t Just Flip a Switch The reason New Year’s resolutions are so different from other goals is that there is heightened awareness around this 1 day each year in which we have a chance to really start fresh. The danger of this heightened awareness is that we don’t really start to think about it until December and we think about it in a very aspirational way (as opposed to a practical). We envision ourselves waking up as entirely new people but the truth is: change doesn’t happen overnight and if we think about midnight December 31 being a Cinderella story fixed with a little sprinkling of fairy dust then we are doomed to be in for a quick path to failure. Solution: Start planning now for how you will reach your goals in the future. 2. You are human. Humans are weak. Goals are designed to be a challenge for the person setting them. If they weren’t challenging, they wouldn’t be goals. They would be accomplishments. In order to overcome challenges, we must apply a steady dose of motivation and mental strength. Let’s be real honest here: If you have been slacking on your goals all year and are sweeping them under the holiday party rug until Jan 2, then of course you’re going to find a big pile of the same old trash still sitting there in the new year. I don’t know about you but waking up with hopes of a fresh start, to the same issues you’ve been trying to hide all along, tends to be more de-motivational than anything. This contributes to declining mental strength around goal setting and before you know it, you’ve failed. Solution: Start getting mentally tough and creating your motivational plan. 3. You are Being Too Vague Sure, losing weight or landing a new job sound like reasonable goals but if you’ve ever tried either, you’ll know they take some work. Working towards an intangible goal can seem like a never-ending uphill hike when you’re in the trenches and this can lead to the will to quit. After all, if you can’t see what you are working towards, you will never get there. This year I resolved to learn Spanish. I failed (I’ll admit it) because when I started about 2 months ago (okay yes, I procrastinated too) I realized there was so much I needed to know and very little time in which to learn it. This of course freaked me out and I quit. Had I been specific from the beginning about perhaps becoming conversational in a restaurant setting then I wouldn’t be doing my resolution walk of shame here. Solution: Set tangible, realistic goals with clear points of achievement with which to work towards. 4. You Aren’t Consistent Planning for the future requires building a roadmap and taking action. A realistic goal becomes overwhelming and unrealistic if it isn’t broken down and acted upon regularly. Create your goal and then reverse-engineer your plan across months, weeks or even days. Put it on paper and hang it on your bathroom mirror so you have a constant reminder of what you need to be doing. Then, do it. A few months ago I wrote about why so many people fail to find happiness and meaning in their jobs. People fail because they don’t take action. If you’re unhappy where you’re at then the worst thing you can do is fail to take action because you’ll always remain where you are and you’ll have no one to blame but yourself. I wish you much success in the New Year especially when it comes to your resolutions. Whether youre a resolution-setter or not, just think about what the world would be like if we all set resolutions to become better people made good on them. It’s a nice thought! Check out my no-fail plan for achieving your career resolutions.

How to Conduct Thorough Research To Land Your Dream Job - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

The most effective method to Conduct Thorough Research To Land Your Dream Job Finding the perfect employment takes significantly more than rapidly refreshing your multi year old CV, sending it with a cutout covering letter, and turning up ultimately for your meeting ill-equipped. You should require some serious energy gathering proof for your CV, tweak it and your introductory letter for each application, and you ought to set yourself up prepared for any meeting that you are approached to join in. Regardless of whether you are sending your CV to driving organizations in your industry, are applying for a job that you have sourced through your expert system, or are applying through an IT enrollment master, the more research you can do, the better prepared you will be to find your new position and make the following stride on your profession stepping stool. 1 â€" Research The Company Research the organization's history and their statement of purpose. It is ordinary for scouts to inquire as to whether you know anything about the organization, in spite of the fact that they won't generally anticipate a sequential history. On the off chance that you know when, why, and by whom the organization was begun, just as any significant dates in the organization's history, at that point you can hold a progressively educated conversation. You should look into however much as could reasonably be expected about the organization, and don't do what needs to be done while you're sat sitting tight for your meeting or even on the morning of the meeting. Take as much time as necessary to set up; the more ready you are, the more outlandish you are to be excessively anxious, and you will have all the data that you have to give you a superior possibility of getting your fantasy work. 2 â€" Research The Role Regardless of whether you are hoping to move from on position to an apparently indistinguishable situation at another organization, get your work done on the job that you are applying for. Interpersonal organizations and corporate sites are your companions. Play a glance at the jobs and prerequisites, decide how you fit into them, and assemble proof that shows you are equipped for addressing the necessities of the position. 3 â€" Research The Interviewers In the event that conceivable, discover who will talk with you, and research their own position, job, and regions that they have some expertise in. You ought to have a more prominent comprehension of what they will be searching for, independently. In the event that you know nothing about your questioners, at that point you will be on the back foot as you hope to strike up an affinity. On the off chance that you can stroll in and state that you acquainted with an individual's work, at that point you will as of now have begun to assemble an expert connection with them. 4 â€" Research Products And Services Decide the items and administrations that your potential manager offers. Figure out who they target, how they target, and even the significant contenders. A few enrollment specialists will need to hear explicit thoughts that you have and that you should actualize. On the off chance that you are as of now outfitted with data on what they bring to the table, it will make the discussion significantly simpler and your exploration ought to furnish you with some smart thoughts that you can likewise convey with you when you begin working with the organization later on. 5 â€" Research The Market Realizing your rivals is a basic part to business endurance. Regardless of whether you are working in IT security, web advancement, or even framework engineering, you will be in a superior situation to effectively lead your work later on, on the off chance that you comprehend the market. Research the fundamental contenders of the business, decide regions where they could grow to, and even gander at imminent colleagues. 6 â€" Research Potential Problems Aside from in a couple of uncommon occasions, where competitors have completely arranged themselves and led intensive research, it is amazingly unordinary for a meeting to go impeccably. The selection representative is probably going to ask something you don't have a clue about the response to, or you may have a gap in your abilities or information. Decide these potential stumbling focuses, and afterward look into what you can do about them. At any rate, this will furnish you with a helpful reaction to the scandalous shortcoming question. You can feature a certified shortcoming, and show that you are finding a way to cure it. Consider recommending preparing or investigate even. 7 â€" Research Your Own Value And Worth Be set up for questions in regards to the amount you are searching for. Decide your money related worth, take a gander at normal pay rates, consider your own understanding and different variables to think of a sensible pay demand. Try not to be apprehensive or anxious about requesting the sum that you feel is reasonable. On the off chance that you won't be upbeat working for less, at that point don't tell scouts that you will be. Not many organizations will pay you more than you request. Whatever your calling, and whichever industry you are knowledgeable about, readiness and research are vital to progress. The Amputated Resume Is Yours Missing The Tie-In to a Promotion

The Amputated Resume Is Yours Missing The Tie-In to a Promotion I’ve seen an alarming trend among self-written resumes lately, where job hunters are positioning themselves for promotion, but have failed to include any information that substantiates their placement at this level. If you’ve decided that it’s time for the next step up in your career, youll need to pack some punch by leading with  a resume title that clearly shows your intent. But if you forgot to include supporting detailâ€"or it’s too low-key to resonate with employersâ€"then you just wrote an amputated resume, which is missing the critical tie-in for your desired  change. In other words, you need to  Show.Your.Readiness. As an example, I’ve worked with candidates who are ready to take on the role of IT Director or CIO, and have a great career progression: previous systems analyst work, project management skills, and infrastructure-building activities. However, their resumes show experience that is related to lower-level jobs (such as Systems Architect, Project Leader, or even IT Manager), with no mention of directorship skills such as executive team collaboration, board-level relationships, or infrastructure decision-making. The result? The candidate keeps wondering why the resume isn’t clicking with hiring authoritiesâ€"who still see a technician coming through on paper. If you’re struggling to make an upward move, here’s the changes Id recommend for your resume: 1) Include specific competencies tied directly to your goal. Elevate employers’ view of your skills with a list of keywords that closely match your desired title. Not sure what these competencies look like? Use indeed.com or jobing.com to find a good cross-section of job descriptions, then pull the requirements shown for each job into a keyword list. 2) Take your career experience out of micro view. So, you’ve met deadlines and made your boss look good? Take it a step further, looking at the projects you’ve worked on and how they impact the company, not just your department or team. Now, you’ll want to flesh out this impact in more detail, including dollar or percentage figures on the overall benefit of these projects and adding these metrics to your resume. 3) Remove skills that pull you down. While you’re boosting your image on paper, don’t forget to take off skills that only a lower-level candidate would display. Examples are basic computer experience in applications such as Microsoft Word or Outlook, or obvious competencies like technical documentation. Most employers will assume that you possess these skillsâ€"given that your target is at a higher levelâ€"so use your resume real estate wisely! Remember that your resume, like any marketing piece, should be shaped for a specific audience with a precise message, and you’ll be able to fill in the missing links to your desired promotion.

Creating a Good Resume Objective for an Accounting Position

Creating a Good Resume Objective for an Accounting PositionWriting a good resume objective for an accounting position is the first step towards landing the job interview. To ensure that you land that interview, you need to have the right resume objective.A good resume objective for an accounting position is one that says something about you and your experience. You want to create a description of what you can do for the company. This can include the following:Most people are very focused on their skills and get too far away from what the position requires of them, but there are many who do this to make more money, but only focus on what they can do for the company. This is a big turn off in an interview and could turn off the interviewer as well as making it difficult to relate to the interviewer's point of view. The 'Extra Services' field is an excellent example of how you could put yourself at a disadvantage. This is because in this area, your employer may not ask you to provide som ething that other positions do. That could be seen as a demotion. Therefore, when writing a good resume objective for an accounting position, you want to avoid using this 'extra services' option.Another important thing to remember is that you don't want to leave any 'blank' spaces in your resume. If you're having trouble finding space to insert your work history and training details, then you may want to start with a two or three page document and fill in the blanks later. Also, if you can't find enough blank space to insert your achievements, then you may want to create one paragraph describing them.Once you have created a good resume objective for an accounting position, you'll need to customize it. You want to be sure that you are doing a great job when you write this document. It should be eye-catching and concise, but it should also communicate exactly what you can do for the company. After you've written a perfect resume objective for an accounting position, you can move onto t he next step of the interview process, which is speaking with the hiring manager. Take a few minutes to speak with the hiring manager and describe your resume. Get their take on your information and be sure to convey in a positive way how you can help the company.Remember that creating a good resume objective for an accounting position takes time but is well worth it in the end. It's one of the most important parts of the interview process.

Why Dont Job Postings Have Salaries Listed

Why Dont Job Postings Have Salaries Listed I HATED not being able to see the salary listed on jobs I was applying to. I HATED IT. I didnt know if I was applying to something for $45k or $90k or $130k. I dont know when companies stopped listing salaries but I think they should PUT THEM BACK IN. Kudos to Funding Universe who blogged about an opening for a Sr PHP Developer and listed the salary range at $55k $75k DOE.  This is so helpful, it weeds some people out right away. (oops to a Funding Universe person who listed the salary at $60k $80k DOE.  If I were interviewing Id totally ask for the $80k, since I now know it is above $75k). What is a Resume Keyword Scanner?

What is a Resume Keyword Scanner? If you use a Resume keyword scanner, you can easily identify the keyword phrases that are common in a candidate's resume. With a keyword database, you can determine exactly what types of positions a candidate is applying for, and what specific jobs they are targeting with their resumes. There are many factors to consider when analyzing a resume, but if you use a keyword database tool, you will be able to quickly find key phrases that might be missed by the human eye. A resume should not look professional, but it should still contain important information that should be included on a resume. The recruiter should have the ability to see what a candidate is really after when filling out a resume.Recruiters want to make sure they hire people who fit their job requirements, which means they are looking for the best candidates possible. Therefore, they will need to be able to know immediately what type of candidate they are looking for, or where they could b e placing their focus to get that specific person. There are many factors that a recruiter will look at when screening potential candidates. There is something called the resume keyword scanner, which looks at each keyword on a resume, and allows the recruiter to determine if the candidate may be hiring around certain words. A good keyword scanner will allow you to see where certain keywords are used the most in resumes, and find a candidate who uses those key phrases more than others.Because a resume needs to be accurate and concise, a recruiter will take the time to find the common words and phrases. Since this is the case, the keyword scanner can pinpoint the key phrases, and potentially save the recruiter a lot of time. The Resume Keyword Scanner is a software program that you can run on your own resume. It can then tell you the most common keywords, and the areas they are used. Once you have this information, you can easily see if a candidate is hiring around specific keywords, o r maybe there is an entire group of keywords they are using.A resume is meant to reflect the applicant's employment history, and skills. The Resume Keyword Scanner tool can help the recruiter and hiring manager screen potential employees to ensure that they hire the best candidates. While this may seem like a good tool to have, the downside is that it can cost up to $300, depending on how often it is updated. Although this is a bit expensive, it can save you from a headache if you do not know the exact keywords that a recruiter is looking for, or you cannot take the time to run a keyword scanner yourself.

Five Great Tech Habits All Career Girls Must Have

Five Great Tech Habits All Career Girls Must Have As technology is a big part of our daily lives, we need to make sure that we have technology all under control, and not the other way around. Here are some great tech habits to adopt right now to boost your productivity. Know Your Third Party Apps We now register and download so many apps to boost productivity that it tends to slow u down. Start really understanding the apps that you use on your devices and be more mindful of  granting permission to third-party apps, tools and extensions. If you are not sure of why you have them or if you havent used an app or software for a while, uninstall them or revoke access. Also, if you dont understand what the app is for or how it popped up on your screen, never grant access. Be Operation System Savvy Everything is moving so fast in the technological front that sometimes it is hard to keep up. One of the things that change so fast are operations systems. They upgrade so much that some people cant help but feel they are left behind. A system rollback freeware like EaseUS System GoBack help solve this tech  anxiety from a Windows 10 upgrade. It proves to be very useful when you want to revert back to Windows 7 from Windows 10 OS when feeling uncomfortable. It also helps you back up files, which is an important factor in upgrading systems. According to a recent study, only 43% of computer owners back up less than once a year, and only 10% back up on a daily basis.  This is a reason why data loss emergencies happen. Dont be part of the statistic! Create Smart Passwords The constant issue when it comes to passwords is that the more secure they get the hard they are to remember.  There is so much risk to having bad passwords, and it can seriously put your in jeopardy to not be more cautious about the passwords you use. When a password is easily hackable crimes such as identity theft can easily be accomplished as well. Dont be a victim. A good tip is to use phrases instead of words, and then change the vowels into numbers or symbols. For example use if you are using the phrase Ms Career Girl My Fave you can phrase it as MsCar33rGirlMyFav3 Organize Your Inbox Having an organized inbox can do wonders for your personal and professional life.  Delete unnecessary emails, organize them into folders and tags, and archive ones that you have responded to. Having a system for your inbox can help you keep track of you interaction with both your work and personal network. Never miss an important email again. You can read up on Gmail tips and tricks to set up folders, filters and shortcuts that will save you time in the year to come. Sort out your media With us taking so many pictures and downloading different forms of media, we tend to end up with useless pictures taking up so much of valuable storage space. Making an effort to organize your media on a regular basis helps you free up useable space on your devices and helps you easily sort through and secure memories for coming years.

10 Rules Bootcamp for Breakups.

10 Rules Bootcamp for Breakups. Breakups suck. They are maybe one of the worst things ever. Like most, I’ve got some experience in the subject. When a friend of mine recently was dumped, I decided to put my experience to good use and compile a list of ways to get you through a breakup. These are not gentle rules. I am not a sappy, rub-your-back, breakup lady. This is Lauren’s boot camp for breakups. While these tips might be a bit hardcore, follow them and you will get over your break up quicker and better than ever. Lauren’s Breakup Bootcamp (OR Insane Tips to Get Through a Breakup Sane) Make Sure Its Over. Back and forth and back and forth relationships are the worst. Before going through the breakup grievances, make sure it is really over. Accept “Breakup You”. Know that this isnt you. Its “Breakup You.” So the crazy emotions, the moments of anger, the bitch moves, are okay.   Its just “breakup you”. Do NOT Listen to Adele. Just don’t do it. Instead, go for inspirational “badass” music- Beyonce, Madonna, Jock Jams. Whatever works for you where you won’t fear the next song will trigger your emotions. Dont Eat Your Tears Away. Eating your emotions will only make you feel worse. Give yourself 1 thing. Then its over. I recommend a McFlurry. Workout Those Emotions. Those endorphins will make you feel so good and empowered! So use that a-hole of an ex to your advantage and tone up that ass. So when you see him next time, hell really see what he is missing out on! Get All Sexy. After obeying #4 and #5, wear whatever makes you feel like a catch. Dont let your quality of life go down because you broke up. After dressing up, walk down whichever street you know youll get a cat call. Don’t Breakup When Aunt Flo Visits. If you are doing the breaking, stay away from times when your emotions are already at their peak, like your lady time. When you cant tell where your emotions are coming from, it is harder to figure out how to process them. If the timing is out of your control, refer to #2. Dont Have a Rebound. Or Have a Rebound. Whatever. While I believe after a relationship you should focus on just Rebounding with Yourself (Trademark this right!?), I know I have not practiced what I preach. So just do what you want, but know that a rebound will not make the ex jealous, seeing that you have independently emotionally moved on will. So if your emotions are at risk dont do it Or try not to. Talk It Out. If you have something that needs to be said, say it. That is how you process emotions. Dont let anything fester. Process it first and then just get it out. Talk to friends and family (or the comment section below!). We get it (remember #2) NOTE: If you feel that you need to talk it out with the new ex, do it. He was involved in this after all!   But you are only allowed to send “little daggers” like a text message saying youre angry, youre disappointed, or that he needs to go screw himself. But after that you are done. Delete the number. Dont look for comfort and avoid person-to-person. If you think that a message is anymore than a little dagger, write it down somewhere and then forget about it. Most Importantly- Get Over It. Someone told me that it takes half of the length of time that you were in a relationship to get over the relationship. While that might be true for some, getting back to regularly scheduled programming as soon as possible tells yourself that you don’t need him. You had a life before him and you will have a life after. The quicker you realize how awesome life is on your own, the better off you are. All of these tips will be broken. You will emotionally eat something, or wear pajamas for a day, or rebound. But if you get anything out of these tips, I hope you get that you aren’t the only one who has gone through a breakup. We are out there and we think you’re sexy. Do you have tools for a breakup? Do you have any questions about mine? Share these rules with the people you know that might need them and together, let’s find the holy grail of breakup guidelines.   Lets talk. Happy Thursday Y’all!

Help With Writing a KSA Resume

Help With Writing a KSA ResumeHelp with writing a KSA resume is essential if you want to have a successful career in accounting. It should be laid out so that it is easy to read and understand for an employer who is reading the document. Also, the resume should be properly formatted so that it looks professional and stands out from the many resumes that are already in the process of being reviewed. If you think that you are ready to write a KSA resume then it is time to begin. First you will need to write down all of your educational qualifications, experience, and skills. You will also need to write down any job related experiences that you have had. If you have been employed in the same or another industry prior to accounting, be sure to include this information as well. After you have included all of your qualifications, you can begin to write the KSA summary. This section will describe what your greatest strengths are and how you can fit them into the position that you are applying for. You may also want to include specific skills that you have, if any, in order to make the most of your skills. When you are writing the KSA summary, do not include any negative or positive skills or abilities. This will only make the employer wonder what you have done in the past that has made you look bad. Instead, simply include any areas where you have shown the ability to perform above and beyond the call of duty. Make sure to address this in the information that you provide on your resume. You will also want to address the KSA qualifications on the first paragraph of your resume. This is the section that provides information regarding your education and experience. It is also where you will want to briefly describe what qualifications you have to be hired. If you have several years of experience in accounting, then you will need to mention this. However, if you only have a few years of experience, then you may choose to do this on the second paragraph. The second paragraph on your KSA resume should focus on what you have accomplished. The needs of the employer and your goals will determine the type of information that you need to include on the second paragraph. Be sure to give your prospective employer a summary of the accomplishment. Also, do not forget to list what your highest priority skills are.If you have many years of experience in accounting, but no formal training, then you may want to include additional information on your KSA resume. This will highlight your expertise and demonstrate your ability to meet the needs of the company. Remember, these skills will translate into real life money once you begin working in the firm.Help with writing a KSA resume will help you avoid any problems with the employer. Your skills will be read by an employer who is looking for someone who can fill the position. Additionally, if you provide information that is accurate and complete, then your potential employer will find that you are the perfect person for t he job. All of these things will translate into increased earnings for you.

How NOT To Build Your Executive Network - Executive Career Brandâ„¢

How NOT To Build Your Executive Network Many of my c-level executive clients have expressed annoyance that theyre constantly tapped for advice a few minutes a lead or a favor by people they dont know, or only know of through several degrees of separation. They are the people who are at, or very near, the top of the totem pole at their companies â€" the key decision makers. The ones job seekers (and others) are trying to network their way towards. A few minutes of their time is like gold. Because theyre in such demand, they often hesitate getting involved with social networking and building an online presence. A number of my clients have said that, although they know they have to be on , they don’t want to open themselves to more requests for their precious time. Im in a similar situation. I guess because Ive been around for about 20 years in the careers industry, and have a fairly strong presence online and on various social media, people I dont know personally, never spoke with or communicated with, or never heard of at all, reach out to me all the time. All too often, they want something from me, so Ive become selective about how I respond. In some instances I dont respond at all for some Ill gently explain that I’m not able to respond to all the request I get for some Im all on board and eager to get to know the person, and help them if I can. Don’t get me wrong. I have happily mentored many people over the years, just as I have been mentored. But I can’t mentor everyone who asks, or even give half an hour of my time to everyone who asks. Here are the kinds of first approaches that completely turn me off: With an invitation to connect on : I’d like to add you to my professional network on â€" using the thoughtless default message provides, and nothing else no personal message. Will you take a look at my profile and let me know what you think of it? Im looking for an XYZ position in the (fill in the blank) industry. Can you introduce me to anyone who can help me? Direct emails from others in the careers industry with whom I’ve never communicated, or I may not know at all: Please help me promote my new book (or product) Can we set up a time to talk about how you built your business using social media? I’m just starting my own career services business. Can you tell me how you did it? Where did they go wrong? Their first communication was a request for a favor â€" to someone they dont know at all, or just barely know. They didnt practice give to get networking. They didn’t give me a reason for connecting with them. Maybe they only wanted that one favor and werent interested in long term networking with me. But I could be setting myself up for an endless one-sided relationship, with someone constantly picking my brain, and offering me nothing in return. What should they have done to make a positive connection? Don’t just tell me how I can help you. Tell me how we can help each other. Give me a reason to want to connect with you, get to know you and help you. Tell me how you know about me, why you want to connect with me and why cultivating a relationship with you might be beneficial for me, too. When you reach out to me, or anyone you intend to ask a favor of, don’t make your first communication the request for that favor. Build the relationship a bit before you expect something in return. Healthy networking requires balance and reciprocity.
