Tough (Question) Tuesday What will you make room for

Tough (Question) Tuesday What will you make room for Make room for your life Postcard set by emcee This might seem absolutely counter-intuitive to last weeks Tough (Question) Tuesday, but when you take something off of your plate, its because you want to make room for something else. And as a slightly hippy-dippy life coach (Ill never be fully hippy-dippy, or at least Ill never admit that I am if I become it), I like to think about what youre committing to bring into your life as opposed to what you want to kick out of it. Feels happier, brighter, positive-er to me. Today, I commit to making room for breaks places to breathe, to explore, to think, to grow. I commit to actually putting things on my calendar so they arent stolen away from me, in following through with them   not forever (scary!), but just for this week. My journal is calling me, Im gonna answer the phone talk for a while. What will you make room for? Post your answer in the comments for commitment support. Its nice there. I promise. ************************************************************************************************************** Yesterday started a month of self-care on Spring, were gonna have new content every freakin weekday this July. Functional Resume Example - Create a New Career and Better Yourself!

Functional Resume Example - Create a New Career and Better Yourself! What is a functional resume example? In simple terms, it is a resume for a job applicant which is done in a functional manner. Today's job hunters are so much in the employ of technology that they can now search for jobs on the Internet through the use of search engines and mobile phones. In case you are looking for a job then I must say that your days are numbered. It is my belief that the way you present yourself to employers is the most important thing when you want to land a job. That is why I always recommend that you create a functional resume example of your skills and experience so that you can focus more on the strengths of yours rather than the weaknesses of yours. The first mistake many job hunters make is to place only the most positive things about themselves in their resumes. In addition, they put less importance on what they do not have. Therefore, they forget to include anything that they really need i n order to succeed in their chosen career path.If you are a job hunter, you must know that your past experiences is so very important. You need to clearly show the strengths and the weakness of your previous experiences, but do not forget to add value and worth to your current resume by providing information about your future plans and the possible benefits that can come out of this. The first functional resume example I found to be very beneficial was 'The ABC's of Human Resources'. It does not matter if you are applying for a job in retail management or administrative positions, these people still give many benefits as they offer different perspectives and choices to the employer. In the first paragraph of the executive summary, they provide their strengths and value that they bring to the organization. They highlight their expertise and unique insight, which are very important as these are the things that employers will value them on. Then they highlight the areas in which they can not deliver the expected performance and they end with their ability to learn from all the experiences that they have been through.A functional resume example which is extremely beneficial for online job hunters is 'How to build a Virtual Team'. Here, the content of the resume is focused more on the creation of a team that will perform well, taking into account different perspectives of individuals.Recruitment specialists should be helpful enough in the examples provided. They will help you out to find the best functional resume example that suits you and your background. You do not have to pay a fortune for a generic functional resume example, but instead save yourself a lot of time and money by using an extremely professional example.

I Get Paid $6,000 a Day to Write Inspirational Quotes for Instagram. Heres How I Perfected This Dream Job

I Get Paid $6,000 a Day to Write Inspirational Quotes for Instagram. Here's How I Perfected This Dream Job Even on Instagram, words matter. Most of us don’t think about it, but those words you see on many social media posts â€" like inspirational quotes or sayings â€" didn’t just come out of nowhere. Someone had to write them. It might have been the actual person whose website or funny quote you’re looking at. Or, it might have been someone they paid to edit or write it for them. Someone like me. Through my copywriting business Talking Shrimp, I make my living writing words you never thought were someone’s job: the names and intros for popular podcasts, website copy for a business selling chocolate angels, the tagline on a homepage for dishcloths that made you say, “Yes! I have to order these!” Most of all, I love and specialize in writing short things. And of all the copywriting I do for my clients, my favorite (and probably most surprising) kind is working on Instagram quotes. I never advertised this service, but a client whom I’d helped with the rebrand of her coaching website loved the original quotes on my Instagram feed and asked, “Could I buy time with you to write my own fun memes?” She was happy to pay my rate of $950 an hour, which sometimes racks up to $6,000 per day. And I was happy to do it. You’ve probably seen inspirational quotes repeated all over Instagram, but I believe in posting your own original quotes. You’ll never make your mark as a brand or thought leader by solely quoting Oprah or Rumi. And I find it deeply ironic that everyone posts the same Oscar Wilde saying: “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” How I get paid to write short, quotable social media posts (and how you can, too) First, the client, a psychologist and life coach, comes to me with a list of ideas she wants to post. “Here’s what I want to say,” she always comments, “but way smarter and punchier.” It’s only fair to note that she’s plenty smart and punchy as a person. With her strong academic background, however, she often gets tripped up in formal jargon and complex ideas when it’s time to communicate for her business. Next, I pop the list of ideas into a shared Google doc, so she can see me typing if we work together. (We usually do, because we have great creative chemistry. Since I know her voice, however, sometimes I’ll work on my own.) I might ask her to elaborate on an idea for a clearer sense of what she wants to say. Then, I’ll start brainstorming new lines right below the original one. As soon as she says, “Ooh, I really love that line,” I’ll know we have something and move on to the next one. Here are a few examples of our before-and-afters: ORIGINAL: When you make your eating or exercise routine carry the burden of your self-esteem, it’s going to buckle. NEW: If your self-worth is the number on the scale, it’s going to go up and down every day. ORIGINAL: Any time your joy is dependent on someone else, you are going to be disappointed. NEW: If you depend on someone else for your joy, depend on being disappointed. ORIGINAL: Guess where you are NOT going to find your passion…endless introspection. NEW: Trying to find your passion by thinking is like trying to bake cookies in your freezer. ORIGINAL: This year, how many of your wishes did you turn into real goals? NEW: Wishes are for birthday candles. Grownups set goals. ORIGINAL: There is no upside to self-criticism. NEW: There is no upside to beating up on yourself. Finally, she takes the finished lines to her graphic designer. (This isn’t required â€" I design my own quote cards, with little-to-no design skill.) Now, the client has a stash of quotes to drip out over the month. You can do this type of writing, too. If you have a way with words, there’s no reason you can’t sell them. More and more businesses and entrepreneurs are using Instagram and other social media to reinforce their brands. They need words â€" and not everyone is good with words. Most people need help, and many will pay for it. Here are my best tips for getting started writing copy and content for other people and brands. Don’t wait for permission One of the great things about writing online is that if you can write, you can start doing so professionally â€" without permission, funding, a book deal, a green light from a studio, or working your way up a corporate ladder. In the highly structured Mad Men world of advertising, it takes years of success to accumulate a portfolio of good TV or print ads, but as a freelance online writer you can create your own work at your own speed. Showcase your talent There are plenty of free, no-permission-required ways to show off your writing skills. Write and publish stories and articles on Medium. Build your own website, and fill it with smart, snappy words. (You can beef up your word skills with these free articles on copywriting.) Post your own original, quotable sayings on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Even if that’s not the writing service you want to offer, your own quotes and tips are a great way to stand out to your target audience. Create your own quote graphics On text-friendly sites like Twitter or Facebook, all you have to do is type what you want to say. But on Instagram, you’ll need to turn your words into an image. Here’s how. Use a graphic editing app like Canva, which offers a variety of Instagram quote templates. Post the quote on Twitter, then take a screenshot and use that as your Instagram image. It won’t have a signature look, but this style of quote is easy to create and read. Let people know you’re available If you want to be hired as a writer, make it clear that you are one and easy to book you. On your website, have a “Hire Me” page that allows people to contact you for more information. Offer your services (even if no one has ever paid you for them yet) on a freelancer site like Upwork. I’ve never used this, but it can be a smart way to get some paid clients under your belt. If you want to write Instagram quotes, use your captions to let people know. For instance, when you post an original quote, the caption can include a sentence like, “Like this? I can help you write your own original quotes. DM me for details.” Set a price Now, I’m not suggesting you’ll earn $6,000 per day writing posts for Instagram (or anywhere else) at the very beginning. My eyebrow-raising rate is the fruit of two decades building demand as a writer. But as more people run their own businesses online, there will be more demand for people who can write words for those businesses â€" for a fee. And the more demand you build for yourself, the more you can charge.

10 Incredibly Stupid Things Networkers Do (Or Dont Do) That Short Circuits Them - Work It Daily

10 Incredibly Stupid Things Networkers Do (Or Don’t Do) That Short Circuits Them - Work It Daily As an Executive Coach with over 30 years of experience, I’m continually asked, “Why isn’t my networking working?” Here are a few things for networkers to check up on. 1. Using Spam Blockers You have one of those “spam blockers” on your e-mail that requires people to fill out a form and ask for your permission before your e-mail will go through. Disable it now! If you’re job hunting and employers want to reach you, forget it if you make them work to get to you. There are plenty of other candidates out there who aren’t as fussy as you are. Put up with a little spam to make life easier for those you want to hear from â€" or you probably won’t hear from them. 2. Giving Out Your Home Phone Number Having a home phone number that is answered by other people. Make sure your networking information only has a cell phone â€" and you answer it promptly and check messages frequently â€" if you have anyone living at your house other than you. This includes a spouse, who may either forget to give you an important message, or become aggressive in trying to “help” you get the job. Make sure you and only you have control over your phone. 3. Having An Unprofessional Voice Message “Hi there. We’re making mad passionate love right now, but we’d love to talk to you when we’re done,” or, my favorite, “They’re coming to take me away… hee, haha, hoohoo, hee” is very funny for your closest friends (maybe), but inappropriate for employers to hear. And, folks, your child on the answering machine is cute only to you, and, perhaps, the grandparents. No one else wants to hear it. 4. Not Having Business Cards If you don't have them, get them now. Make sure your name, a mailing address, phone number and e-mail are all on there. Have 1,000 made. Don’t use those flimsy computer printer cards. You can print your own if you have a very good printer and use heavy cardstock, but get them professionally cut (about $6.00). 5. Not Having A Personal Branding Statement Do you have a concise statement of who you are and what you do? While you may do many things in life and in your employment, if you can’t be put into a mental “box” in about 30 seconds people will write you off. Be sure you can pinpoint what your main professional function in life is. If you can’t, get help. 6. Dressing Inappropriately For Networking Events Dressing inappropriately for networking events. Obviously, you’re going to dress differently for a singles event designed to generate dating from a business event designed to generate new business or make professional contacts. Make sure you know the rules of attire for each event, and don’t dress in any way that makes you seem less than professional. 7. Not Mixing And Mingling Grabbing a table or a corner with your friends and camping out there. You’re there to meet new people. Meet them! 8. Not Watching Your Alcohol Intake A drink or two can loosen you up enough to network well. Five or six drinks can start a reputation as a lush. Carefully watch your alcohol intake. And keep in mind even the best event has very limited food. Eat before you go to an event to counterbalance the alcohol you’re probably going to consume. One glass of wine on an empty stomach can be too much for some folks. 9. Reeking Of Cigarette Smoke If you must persist in smoking, please make sure you’re well aired-out before you come into an event. Smoking is a major turn-off for employers, prospective business partners and most of the rest of the sane world. 10. Reeking Of Perfume Or Cologne I strongly suggest not wearing either perfume or cologne at all, and being incredibly careful about scented hairsprays, lotions and body washes. Many people have severe allergies. Someone who reacts to you by sneezing and coughing in your presence isn’t going to help you in any way. They will avoid you. Of course (see number nine above) if you must continue to smoke, a little cologne smell is probably marginally better than smelling like a stale ashtray. But don’t marinate in it, please! Long Term Goals How to Form Them

Long Term Goals How to Form Them You probably think about your future a lot. Will you have time to accomplish everything you want to do? What exactlydoyou want to do you with your life? How you answer these questions depends on your personal goals and specific aspirations.Whether your company is asking you to describe your ambitions as part of aperformance reviewor you just want to figure out your personal objectives, setting long term goals can help you figure out where youre headed, stay on course, and find meaning in your work, both in the long and short term. Developing goals also allows you to acknowledge and celebratepersonal achievements. So how do you set clear, actionable, and achievable career goals for yourself? Here are five questions to ask yourself.5 Questions for rahmen Long-Term Goals1. Overall, am I happy where I am now?If the answer is yes, thats great Having short-term goals is just as important to your overall sense of subjective well-being as long term ones. Still , chances are you have a lot left to accomplish. If youre not very happy in your current role, consider what exactly you dont like about it. Thinking about what needs to change can inform your career goals in terms of what you dont want and how your work can be different from that in the future.2. What do I like best about my job?If your gut reaction is to respond everything or nothing, try again. Theres at least one aspect of your work that you like. Even if its the benefits you receive, its still something you can take into account when forming your career goals.Chances are, there are more aspects of your current job that you enjoy. Perhaps you have a great verstndigung im strafverfahren of autonomy. If thats the case, you might want to factor that into your career goals, both short and long, and consider how you can find a path that affords you independence.3. What are my greatest strengths? Are you a goodlistener? A naturalleader? Even if you arent using these skills in your curre nt position, theres probably some quality people have always admired in you. Think about the compliments you receive fruchtwein and where your true talents lie. They will guide you as you reflect on what you want to accomplish and what career objectives are achievable.4. Who is my career role model? No matter what your industry is, theres someone whos excelling in it. Think about the people you look up to in your profession. If youre a journalist, perhaps its Arianna Huffington. Or maybe youre an actor and admire Meryl Streep. Once youve determined who makes your profession great, you can look into the steps they took to get to where they are today and formulate your own personal career goals. Also, consider what characteristics you most admire about these figures. They didnt get to where they are because of sheer talent alone.Identifying the qualities that make your role models shine can give you something to mirror and seek out yourself.5. What accomplishments make me most proud?Ult imately, you want to be proud of your work. Reflecting on the accomplishments that have made you proud in the past will inform what you want for your future. You dont need to have won a Nobel Prize even accomplishments that seem small scale are still accomplishments. Everybody starts small. A minor achievement can lead to great things in the future, but you need to know what you want to achieve to get there.Long-Term Goals vs. Short-Term GoalsLong-term goals are those you want to accomplish in the future, such as starting a business or buying a house. They will require work and careful planning and take a fair amount of time to achieve. You can accomplish short-term goals in the more immediate future. For instance, perhaps youre working toward completing a project at work or you want to rent a new apartment. How to Prioritize Your GoalsIt can be difficult to know how to prioritize your goals, espcially when you have several different (or competing) aspirations. To help you determine which goals to put at the top of your to-do list, ask yourself these questions Do any of your goals have deadlines? The earlier the deadline, the further up on your list the goal should be. Which goals matter to you the most personally? What you think matters most not your friends, family or society. About which goals do you think about the most? Which goals will be most important in the distant future? How do you feel when you think about a particular goal? Which goals feel aspirational as opposed to burdens? No matter where you are in life, its never too late to start formulating a long-term plan to give you something to aspire toward. Not only can a personal goal and objective give you direction, but theyll also make you happier, knowing that you are working towards something. That said, as you set goals, you should also try to keep a back-up plan (or a few) in mind. Having specific goals is great for providing motivation, but being overly wed to them could wind up backfiring. As Sheryl Sandberg says in her book Option B, life doesnt always go exactly as wed envisioned but that doesnt mean it cant be better than wed even pictured. Fill your years with whatever makes you most happy, and youre sure to find long-term success

3 Ways to Bring Diverse Candidates Into Your Talent Pipeline And Keep Them There

3 Ways to Bring Diverse Candidates Into Your Talent Pipeline And Keep Them ThereJob seekers are starving. Theyre craving as much information about your company as youll give them. They want to see the companys mission in motion. Theyre looking for how passions turn into productive output, and what youre doing to empower a diverse workforce. They are expecting to see diversity across age, gender, ethnicity, experiences, and thought. A few of companies are focused on giving job seekers exactly what theyre looking for in the diversity department. In fact, 35 percent of hiring professionals, according to a 2017 Glassdoor report, plan on increasing their diversity and inclusion efforts when looking for talent. Some may argue, however, this number still isnt high enough when it comes to bringing diverse candidates into talent pipelines.Even if your gruppe has already set diversity and inclusion goals, hitting them is a significant challenge if your hiring tactics remain stagnant. Its time to find new and hungry job seekers by developing strong, meaningful relationships with diverse candidates. Once you do, your ability to bring top diverse candidates into your talent pipeline, and keep them there, will grow exponentially. Here are three tactics you need to fill up your talent pipeline with diverse candidates1. Uncover holes in your diversityBefore you put on your recruiting boots and go out searching for diverse candidates, you must first determine what type of diversity your company is lacking. Remember, diversity goes far beyond gender and race. You need to uncover what backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives will enhance your company.Believe it or not, hiring pros in the previously mentioned Glassdoor report say candidates demographics are one of the top three metrics for measuring recruiting success. Even more surprising, those same hiring pros agree candidate demographics are more critical to recruiting success than the following measuresHow long it takes to f ill a roleHow long it takes to deliver a job offerThe success a company has in converting job seekers to applicantsThe ratio of applicants to hiresFocus on your companys gaps in diversity by performing a multidimensional demographic survey of employees and candidates. Look at personality types, age, gender, race, and both personal and professional experiences. Use these details to create a target list of demographics you want to see in your talent pipeline. Diversity hiring goes far beyond gender, age, and race.Click To Tweet2. Track a variety of hiring metricsOnce youve narrowed down the types of candidates you want in your talent pipeline, theres no doubt youll eventually find those traits in applicants. This is a positive but only when youre actively maintaining those relationships. You cant adequately hold onto top diverse candidates if you dont understand what aspects of the talent acquisition strategy attracted them. Without the proper hiring metrics, it will take you, or ano ther team member, an inordinate amount of time to understand what makes them tick. Collect data that shows how candidates discovered the company. Was it an employee referral, were they Googling companies like yours, was it a customer referral, or were they on a job board and were matched with a current opening? Also, survey candidates to determine what details attracted them to your company. Find out if it was a specific job opening, your mission, or the way an employee or customer spoke about your product or team. In these details, youll find definitive answers about how diverse candidates are searching for jobs and what you need to do to keep them interested. You cant effectively keep top talent without knowing what attracted them to your company. recruitingClick To Tweet3. Empowering employee ambassadorsA company can pour excessive amounts of money into diversity hiring and inclusion efforts. Some of these costs are necessary, of course, and this isnt a place where you want to ti ghten the budget. Unfortunately, the Glassdoor report found 10 percent of hiring decision-makers think employees will leave their current job in the next 12 months if there isnt a diversity and inclusion program. However, some diversity hiring efforts dont require significant funds. Some of the most powerful diversity recruiters have been under your nose this whole time your current team. Employees who love their jobs, feel supported by leaders, and whole-heartedly believe in their product, will be more than willing to discuss those details with their network. Show off how your company embraces diversity and inclusion by featuring employee stories on your blog, career site, and social media channels. Invite other employees to share posts with their network of friends, family, former co-workers, and even acquaintances. Using personal stories to inform job seekers that your company recognizes the importance of diversity will draw even more quality candidates into your talent pipeline.
